HARUNA: It's currently 4:12 am. We just finished a special live broadcast on TOKYO FM... We'd like to take advantage of that momentum and record one more episode.
"Mayonaka Catch up - Yoake no Enchou-sen (Overtime at Dawn)!"
~Will you join us for Bulgaria Yogurt at dawn? Special!

All: Ohー!

TOMOMI: Let's goー

HARUNA: We've been hit by "MONSTER DANCE" and want to keep the momentum going. So, straight from the live broadcast special, we'll read some messages.

MAMI: Wow, here it comes. I'll read it.

Concept cafe-loving dad

This is my first time sending in a comment like this, so I'm sorry if I didn't get the point.

MAMI: Eh, wait, wait. Ehー!?

RINA: What is it?

MAMI: "By the way, the cafe's concept is a demon world."

Staff note: The message theme for the live broadcast special was "Mayonaka no Hisohisobanashi" (Whispered Conversations/Secrets In the Middle of the Night). Among theme, we received a message from a father who goes to "concafes" (concept/themed cafes) within the range of his pocket money. We also received a song request from him for KEYTALK's "MONSTER DANCE, which he enjoys talking about with an employee. However, the requests we were looking for were for the purpose of "sending it to someone special," and since it's not a song that people at the concafe were excited about, it was a huge hit in the live broadcast studio. We were curious about what kind of concafes there actually were, but since our time slot was up, we had to end the episode without finding out. After the live broadcast ended, we received a message.

All: Ehーーーー!!

TOMOMI: I'm curious!

RINA: You're kidding, right?

TOMOMI: Is there a cafe based on the concept of a demon world?

HARUNA: The demon world??

MAMI: Yes, a demon world cafe.

RINA: Would it be really dark?

MAMI: Do you talk with demons?

TOMOMI: Is there a demon king or something?

RINA: Ehー, really?

TOMOMI: Witches and stuff.

HARUNA: (*holds up her phone) If you look up "demon world," the word "concafe" pops up.

TOMOMI: Ehー?

RINA: So it must be popular.

MAMI: How many are there?

TOMOMI: We're going to expose it.

HARUNA: There might only be one of them...

MAMI: Really?

TOMOMI: Then there it is.

MAMI: I hope it's okay with the listener.

TOMOMI: Then that means "MONSTER DANCE" fits the request of "a song for someone special"!

RINA: Yeah.

MAMI: Yeah, it fits.

TOMOMI: Because it's a monster world. I feel like we should apologize.

MAMI: The listener didn't miss the point. No need for them to apologize.

RINA: Thanks for making the episode more exciting.

MAMI: The inhabitants of the demon world love "MONSTER DANCE."

RINA: That's right.

TOMOMI: It really was a "monster cafe."

The live broadcast special program "Mayonaka Catch up" from 2-4 am was also exciting!

Thank you very much for your kind words.

As announced during the live broadcast, we have completed a new novelty item for the program!
It's a pouch again, but this time it's a floppy pouch!
The charm is cute, too!

Happy New Year! This year, I will be trying to post translations for various older releases I haven't yet done. First up is the interview in HARUNA's photo book "SOMEWHERE," released on her 30th birthday in 2018!

Interview With HARUNA

HARUNA, who ran through her 20s as SCANDAL's frontman, is turning 30 on August 10, 2018. She has taken a trip after just finishing a tour in Japan. The word that describes her now is "SOMEWHERE," which means "a place other than here." She doesn't have a destination, but she's heading somewhere she hasn't seen yet. The photos of HARUNA included in her photo book capture her healthy mind and body, showing a wide variety of expressions. The confidence she gained through her band activities, her victorious spirit that refuses to give in in the face of setbacks, her eyes that try to look straight at everything, her girlish smile, the sadness and tenderness of having experienced real love, her mature expression, and her true self never seen before. After a few days of vacation away from the band, we asked her to tell us about her life now.

HARUNA turns 30 on August 10, 2018

——August 10, 2018, is your 30th birthday. HARUNA, what did you think being 30 would be like?

HARUNA: I vaguely thought I'd be a very mature person... I had the impression I'd be more settled down, perhaps married. Oddly enough, I thought I'd maybe be more older looking (laughs)? But even when I debuted with SCANDAL at the age of 20, I didn't think about what I'd be like in 10 years. I couldn't imagine it at all. I don't think I was wondering what'll happen in 10 years.

——I see. So your 20s spanned the 10 years since your debut.

HARUNA: Right. That's why I thought 10 years would be a long time, but I realized that 10 years have passed in the blink of an eye. I think the time from 20 to 30 was much shorter than the 10 years from 10 to 20. I wonder why it was so short...

——I guess it is true that SCANDAL's activities were fulfilling.

HARUNA: Yes. I definitely think that I've come a long way via SCANDAL's activities. However, to be honest, because I was so fulfilled as a member of SCANDAL, I wasn't really fulfilled as an individual. But recently, I've started to understand a little bit more about how to spend my time for myself. If I had a week off, I can now afford to think, "Let's go on a trip!"

——That hadn't been the case until now.

HARUNA: I felt like I couldn't fully enjoy my time off. I was really holding myself back, and I never thought that I could gain input by enriching my time.

——Were you stoic about SCANDAL's activities anyway?

HARUNA: That's right. I think I had a strong feeling that I had to work hard. I even thought it would be a bad idea to do something else apart from the band.

HARUNA talks about work and love
Looking back at herself after running through her 20s

——You were pouring everything you have into SCANDAL, like "100% goes to SCANDAL."

HARUNA: Yeah. I really thought that the four of us should always be together as SCANDAL. But what I think at the milestone of turning 30 is that I'm starting to enjoy my life a lot more. So, just because I'm turning 30 does not mean that I'm in a hurry for anything, and in many ways I think I've become more relaxed.

——That's a good thing.

HARUNA: I feel that turning 30 years old is an event that will bring me peace of mind. In the past, I always wanted to be seen in a way that's appropriate for my age, But there have been many times when I haven't been seen that way, or even treated that way. My bandmates are two to three years younger than me, so there are always moments when I have to be two or three years younger than my actual age. I find myself thinking a little more, "I'm just a normal adult, though." By being able to say I'm 30 years old, I feel that I can be seen as an adult.

——Because SCANDAL is a band consisting of four women, there may be people worrying about you and doting on you even more. So, what do you think about the gap between HARUNA of SCANDAL and your normal self?

HARUNA: Ah, I'm in the process of filling that in. As HARUNA of SCANDAL, what I've created is pretty big. I think it's mainly the way I behave on stage, but I think I've tried to act cool beyond my capacity and say more than I thought I could.

——Is it partly because you're the frontman of the band?

HARUNA: I wonder about that. I've been thinking recently how that came about, and I think it's because I came from a dance and vocal school [Caless]. I chose to be in a band because I thought, "If I'm able to make my debut in music, I'll do it in any way I can." However, I didn't know what kind of band I had in mind or the way a vocalist in a band should behave, so I was doing things based on my own imagination. That's what I've been building up for 10 years.

——That's proof that you've been working hard.

HARUNA: Now that I think about it, I was struggling desperately... I think I could have been a little easier on myself. I don't know why, but in a sense, I had a complex about being from that kind of school. Of course, there are also things like strong grit and competitive spirit that come from being in that kind of school.

——Having that kind of perseverance has allowed the band to grow, and in a sense it's one of SCANDAL's strengths. Let's talk about the past 10 years: The band was born from a project, but you made your major debut and took your band activities seriously, not in a lax manner. You succeeded in performing at Osaka-Jo Hall, which you had longed to do, and have done large-scale tours in Japan to overseas tours. You've accomplished things that ordinary women can't experience.

HARUNA: In any case, I feel that we've been doing everything we can to reach our goals. We've cleared things one by one, such as "We're going to perform at Osaka-Jo Hall" and "We'll tour overseas." However, even though we have completed each task one by one, it doesn't mean that we are completely at peace right now. I don't think that we have yet achieved a true sense of accomplishment as SCANDAL.

——As you started writing and composing your own songs, you felt a desire to express yourselves even more, and this is precisely because you are pursuing your own expression, including through artwork.

Genuine facial expressions on stage

HARUNA: If I had tried to express myself properly from the time I debuted, I don't think my life would have turned out like this. That's why I feel so happy to be turning 30 after 10 years as HARUNA of SCANDAL. I think I can enter my 30s and show my true self as a human being a little more!

—— HARUNA, I think you've always had an older sister-like image on stage. At times, it feels like you're showing off your sadistic side to the fans as well. In recent concerts, that teasing attitude has become very natural. It's exquisite and not too sadistic.

HARUNA: I think the naturalness and everyday feel that our recent songs have had made me do that. During our recent tour in Japan, we had a segment where fans asked us all kinds of questions. We disregarded taboos and answered them honestly. The fact that I was able to do it properly and honestly meant a lot to me. There are no lies, and there's nothing to hide. When we spoke honestly, even about things that were intrusive, everyone accepted us. They could tell that we were telling the truth, and it helped us build a relationship of trust with them.

——During the Q&A portion of the tour, you were asked, "What would you do if someone you care about asked you to quit the band?" I like that you answered, "By that, you mean a boyfriend, right? I don't date people like that."

HARUNA: Yeah (laughs). But it's a dumb question because the people we really care about wouldn't tell us to quit the band.

——Indeed. Your response to the "What do you think about fans calling a member their bias?" question was also impressive. You said that it doesn't matter which member is someone's bias, and that it doesn't matter if people think of SCANDAL as a band or as an idol group. Your big-hearted answer was, "People are free to do what they want." When I was asked to do an interview around the time of the band's 10th anniversary, I think you had a stronger desire to be seen as a band, but I think you've already gone beyond that point.

HARUNA: That's right (laughs). I think that's because it's been 10 years since our debut. Maybe it's because we've gained confidence in ourselves. We can't say we're not confident. Nowadays, I don't think there's a need to hide things like how there's no way a 30-year-old isn't in love.

A time when you can express yourself
Being truthful and showing your true colors

——Perhaps due to the trend of idol culture in Japan, even bands tend to view love and family as taboos.

HARUNA: I think we live in a country where people tend to hide their personal side, and there's a tendency to believe that hiding it is the right thing to do. But personally, I prefer to see the "person" of the person, whether it's an artist or actress. I think it makes them much more likable, or rather, wonderful, to be able to see a glimpse of their lives, to feel a sense of kinship that they're not so different from us, or if they have someone they're dating. I'd like to be the same way.

——A long time ago, I think there was a false image of stars. We now live in an era where people around the world are showing their true selves.

HARUNA: We live in an era where social media has become commonplace and people can express themselves, whether they're celebrities or ordinary people, so I think it's better to be more natural. I don't think it's cool to reveal everything, but there are definitely parts that cannot be hidden, so I think it's okay to show your true colors and not lie.

——In fact, SCANDAL's recent works have realistically expressed songs about everyday life and the sadness of love.

HARUNA: That's right. I think we're able to properly create music from things and events that happen in our daily lives. I've always had that stance, but when I was more familiar with the idea of "working hard toward your dreams," I used that in my songs, and I think that has changed in many ways. Now, 10 years later, it's no longer about what venue we're working hard to perform at or what we're aiming for, but about how long we can continue as a group of four, and what kind of fun things we can do in the process.

HARUNA's real love life

——SCANDAL's music these days feels like they're talking about fashion and love with their female friends. HARUNA, were you really popular when you were a child?

HARUNA: Ahaha. I don't really know what being popular means. Now that I think about it, I guess I was popular leading up to middle school and high school. When you go from elementary school to middle school, about three of them gather together. I think I was popular in the first semester of middle school and the first semester of senior high school, when the environment changes (laughs).

——What was your first love like?

HARUNA: My first love, huh... What is "first love," anyway... The first time I realized that boys were cool was in kindergarten. He was a soccer player with very bright eyes, but his hair was silky smooth. He wasn't the type of kid that joked around. Compared to the boys around me, he was by far the best looking (laughs). Or maybe it was a boy my age who lived in the same apartment building...... There's always someone I like.

——You mean you're a romantic?

HARUNA: Yeah. Yes! I always have someone I like! And, strangely enough, even if it's not someone close to me, it could be a music artist or an anime character.

——Ahaha! Do you have a favorite type?

HARUNA: Hmm, I wonder. Looks have always been important. And being stylish in some way. It might have come from my parents' tastes, but when I was little, I always noticed if they looked well-coordinated or wore nice shoes.

——It's amazing you were able to see things like that from a young age (laughs). So who was the first person you dated?

HARUNA: The first time I properly dated someone was when I was in 8th grade (second year of middle school).  I don't have any particular memories about it.

——Did you walk home together?

HARUNA: Not at all. The atmosphere among my classmates at that time was quite childish. They get very cold feet about things like who is dating who. So I didn't feel like I could tell everyone that we were dating. Also, the first person I dated was very naive. Even though we dated for about four months, they only wanted to hang out once. Internet cafes were popular at the time, and there was a fairly large one in the neighborhood. We went inside and watched TV for about two hours. The conversation wasn't particularly lively. I left without doing anything and went home after eating ice cream from Baskin-Robbins (laughs). Oh, and we also took purikura together, but the distance between us was so great that we were on opposite ends of the screen (laughs). I'm like, "What even was this time frame!?"

——What a cute relationship!

HARUNA: I don't even know if that was a proper relationship. I thought I wanted to date him because he was cool, but at that time I had already started going to [Caless], and I think that was all I could think about.

——You had other things to be obsessed with than a boyfriend.

HARUNA: I didn't like school then and didn't find much enjoyment in it. I wanted to go to dance school as soon as possible.

——Though it wasn't love and work, at that time you were already faced with the problem of how to balance love and school.

HARUNA: Yes, since I was still a student then. So even when I would go out with someone in high school, I sometimes prioritized Caless and things didn't end up working out.

——So it was like, "What if someone important to you asked you to quit the band?"

HARUNA: Yeah. I really don't understand it (laughs)

——Do you think it's be better for the band if you're in love?

HARUNA: That, I don't know. There are times when I can do my best when I'm alone, so I sometimes think it's better not to have people like that around. That's why I can't generalize that it's better to be in love. I can't, but...I am currently in love, though (laughs).

An unforgettable real love
A breakup decided according to one's feelings

——In your kind of industry, you're surrounded by attractive people, including artists, creators, and staff, but how do you meet people?

HARUNA: There are many different ways to meet people.

——Is it a challenge to take you on, from a male perspective? You've been very active and have stood on stage in front of many people and toured overseas, so you could say that you'd be out of peoples' leagues.

HARUNA: I wonder. At first, I may seem rather highbrow. However, the people I like are usually expressive people, and many of them are completely different from me, or have a different type of expression, so I don't think it has anything to do with that. I wonder... On the other hand, I tend to turn my attention to places where someone might be able to fill in what I'm currently lacking. Like, "I don't like this about myself.'' "I want to change this, but I don't know how." But if I think I might be on the right track with this person or that maybe they'll add some spice to my life, my feelings start to change.

——Is that something intuitive?

HARUNA: It's mostly intuition. That's why I don't often have friends who then become lovers. I can intuitively tell when someone's a good fit for me.

——So, do you approach them yourself?

HARUNA: I do. That's also kind of interesting. But when I think something is good, the other person often thinks the same way too. Maybe I'm exuding the vibe that I like them. I don't know about that, though (laughs).

——So everyone knows about it?

HARUNA: Ah, it's not so much that they know about it. But I'm so quick to tell others about it (laughs).

——I see. So you're the type of person who wants to love?

HARUNA: Well, whether I want to love or be loved, it's not both (laughs).

——That's true (laughs). So, are there any people you'll never forget?

HARUNA: ...there are. It was fairly recent. I really loved him, but ultimately I dumped him. I thought I would be with him forever, whether we got married or not. But in the end, I said goodbye because I knew I wanted to get married, have a baby, etc. I thought it would be fine if we could just be together, but I knew that I wouldn't be able to marry him even if I stayed with him forever.

——I see. I guess you saw the realistic side of it.

HARUNA: It was also a moment when I thought a little bit about my future. I think it's because I'm in my late 20s and am conscious of the fact that I'm turning 30. I really liked him, but I decided to make my decision.

——You made a good decision.

HARUNA: Hmm. Well... I didn't dislike him, and I remember a lot of things about him. We were together for a rather long time, like four years, but the times when we could or couldn't see each other gradually accumulated. This caused stress, we fought, we broke up many times. A lot of things happened, but I'll probably never forget him.

——You loved him that much.

HARUNA: Yeah. But the reason we broke up wasn't only because of marriage or kids—I also felt my own limits while dating him. I thought I wouldn't be able to grow any further as a person. There's a lot I gained from meeting him, and there's a lot that changed after meeting him, but I wonder if I really did gain anything from him in the four years we were together.

——I'm sure you were hurt after going through such a big breakup, but how did you recover from it?

HARUNA: I wonder. I feel very sorry for him. We didn't fight when we broke up, and in the end we were very kind. I am a little sorry that I put my own feelings first.

——It's more about getting back on your feet.

HARUNA: Yeah. I feel sorry more than anything. I told him my honest feelings and he understood everything... My feelings had turned elsewhere. But he didn't stop me from leaving. He told me, "I might not be able to make you happy, so it's better this way." I cried a lot. But one thing I can say is that if I had continued to be with him, I wouldn't be where I am today. It's not that that relationship was a bad one; I am really glad I met him.

——It's wonderful that you're able to say that. I also think it's impressive that you were able to bring things to an end by yourself. It's hard to end anything, whether it's work, love, or anything else, because it's often hard to get it done, and it's easy to drag things out.

HARUNA: Yes, it is difficult. But you do it in order to move forward.

——But I know that SCANDAL tours often; what do you do when you really miss someone? Do you want to go see them even if you're tired?

HARUNA: Hmm...... Before, I would go see them after the concert if I wasn't too tired. But I decided not to act like I'm going because I really missed them. In the past, I was the type of person who would just go, but I thought that really wasn't a good idea.

——Like you're too dependent on them?

HARUNA: That's right. I thought that wasn't cool for me to be like that. I should be a woman who wants to see them, not a woman who goes to see them. This has only happened recently, though (laughs).

——By the way, how do you get them to come see you? Any tips?

HARUNA: Ahaha. I don't know. I wonder. I don't know if it's a tip or not, but the number one point is that it isn't difficult for us to be with each other. For example, it can be stressful to meet up if you're busy. Of course, you also need time for yourself. In that kind of situation, the question is whether the relationship is one where you can make time for yourself even when you're together.

Can an all-girl band and getting married & having children go together?

——I think marriage is something that affects band activities, not only for all-girl bands, but for both men and women. Would it be true for SCANDAL?

HARUNA: I'd like to continue working after having experienced something like that. I'd want to show that it is possible to continue to make music and work as a woman even after getting married or having children.

——The stylist who did the styling for this photo book has a 7-month-old baby.

HARUNA: I asked her how long after she gave birth did she return to work. To my shock, she said 10 days. I was like, "Seriously!?"

——I think that's due to her own efforts and the support of her family and the staff. I thought the fashion industry was very open-minded, with models and stylists working hard even after giving birth.

HARUNA: Right? I thought it was great and really cool. Because both [work and family] are important, right? You love your job, but you also choose to work and have both. It's inspiring for me to think there are people like that out there.

The band, marriage, having children!
If there's no path, just make a new one

——Globally, it's rare for an all-girl band to continue with the same members for 10 years. Although things may end at any time, I think it's possible to create new shapes and paths.

HARUNA: I think we've created many different paths. We've always said, "If there's no path, we'll just make one."

——I see. A school that produces dance vocalists created an unprecedented path for you to debut as a band.

HARUNA: Yep, yep, yep. That's why we didn't have any seniors whose footsteps we could follow. It's a significant thing that we've been able to continue with the same members, even though we've been groping our way through it all. That's why it's meaningless without the four of us. We've already decided that if one of the members leaves, we'll call it quits. I wonder what kind of path we'll make.

A healthy mind and body is connected to singing

——I think these photos of you show that you're dealing with your mind and body, HARUNA. I feel that that's reflected in your songs as well.

HARUNA: As for singing, it's something I've been struggling with for the past 10 years. There are times when I still find it difficult to sing. About three years after our debut, I couldn't sing anymore. I still can't remember how I sounded or sang before that. When that happened, I found a new vocal technique with a voice training teacher, but it still has a lot to do with mental health. I think the trauma and fear of not being able to sing will stay with me for the rest of my life. When you sing, your body may subconsciously tense and stiffen, so it's a matter of how you can avoid getting into that zone.

——Fighting against something done unconsciously is an amazing field to work in.

HARUNA: Yes. In fact, I kept singing for years without knowing the correct answer. I didn't know what the right answer was, I wasn't convinced, I kept doing it without liking my singing at all, and I had half given up. I thought it might be impossible to just sing for fun like before. When that happens, it's tempting to give up on a lot of things. I started thinking about how powerless I was, what was the point of me being here, and wondering if it was okay for me to be the band's vocalist. That's why I couldn't come up with any ideas. Nothing came to me. I couldn't write lyrics and I couldn't write songs.

——Was that influenced by your singing?

HARUNA: I think that's part of it. Singing was the only thing for me but I had I lost it, or rather, it'd become so tiring that I no longer understood the value of my existence. But even during that time, my bandmates were working hard, trying their best to make good songs, and actually making good songs. So I felt that I had to catch up with them, and I didn't want to waste their feelings. I felt like I needed to show more than that. Their strength was a huge thing for me. It made me want to break out of my troubled shell. I was getting angry at myself for only being able to sing in a certain way. My bandmates are often better than me in terms of expression and various ideas. I wondered why, even though I'm the vocalist, I couldn't do anything more than my other members. So, I decided to eliminate who I originally was and let things flow. I had a lot of pride that I didn't need, so I decided to throw it all away.

By working out your body, you can lighten your mind
What is a healthy beauty that is not flirtatious?

——You didn't run away.

HARUNA: Yeah. As I improved myself, I realized that my preconceived notion that I don't often or can't use a certain kind of voice was a useless idea. I decided to try out all of my creative ideas. By doing so, I was able to do things that I thought I couldn't do by actually challenging myself.

——You decided to give it a try anyway.

HARUNA: I would try things out and decide whether or not they suited me. I want to be recognized and thought of as awesome by my bandmates. Looking back, I thought of how I've loved singing ever since I was little, and that I've loved having people listen to my singing. I thought I had no choice but to sing. I had lost that kind of fundamental narcissism.

——I think it's shown in the photos, but you can also see that in the way you work out your body.

HARUNA: That's right. I've always had a complex about not gaining weight no matter how much I eat. I really hate it when people say, "You look so skinny."

——I think everyone is saying it as a compliment.

HARUNA: Yeah. I know they mean it as a compliment. It's a complex for me, and I hate it so much. However, if I was going to make a photo book and put it out into the world, I wanted to present myself in a way that I felt really good about, and I wanted to have my body photographed in a way that I felt good about as well, so I worked hard. In the past, I had been unable to exercise because I was afraid that I would end up losing weight.

——Aah, that's what you were thinking.

HARUNA: That's how strong my complex was. But exercise also depends on how you do it. If I just ran, I would lose weight quickly, so I wanted to find a different way to do it. For example, in order to correct your tendency to slouch and improve your posture, you may need to strengthen these certain muscles. If you like your butt, you might think of ways to train it and pump it up a bit more. To make your thighs look a little nicer, you might want to train your adductor muscles.

——It seems like it's good to train your adductor muscles and pull up your abdomen.

HARUNA: Yeah. Adductor muscles also affect singing. It's like killing two birds with one stone. I had many discoveries. After all, when you train your body, your mind becomes lighter, too. And it makes your singing better... Something like that. I think all I want is to sing better, perhaps. I realized that not being able to sing is the most stressful thing for me.

——Do you do anything to take care of your throat?

HARUNA: If I really think, "I don't want to not be able to sing anymore," my voice won't weaken as much. Seriously. I don't even catch colds anymore. Even if everything else is falling apart, I feel that just wanting to protect my throat absolutely makes all the difference. So, specifically, it's not that I'm taking a lot of care of it—I just think it's better not to take too much care of it on a regular basis.

——It's like a rock star from yesteryear. The grace of not taking care of yourself.

HARUNA: (laughs). That's why, lately, I've been thinking that I can always use my voice no matter what. Even if I get on a plane and my skin is really dry, I think, "I'll be fine; my voice will come out,'' and it actually does come out.

——That's interesting. The mind and body are closely connected.

HARUNA: Yeah!

——I think that kind of mental and physical fulfillment shows in the photos. It gives off the healthy vibe of HARUNA without being flirtatious.

HARUNA: Hmm. I guess soー. I feel like it makes all the difference whether you are consciously trying to be beautiful on a daily basis or not. I want to be in tune to beauty on a daily basis, because a forced or false appearance is definitely not beautiful. Of course, getting old is scary, but I still want to be beautiful, so I want to make the proper efforts to be beautiful.

——It's not the 20-year-old HARUNA, though, and the confidence of the 30-year-old HARUNA is evident in the photos. I think you'll continue to age in a good way. The photos have a persuasive power and beauty that comes from within.

HARUNA: In that sense, it was important that I realized just before I turned 30 that it was okay to be my more natural self.

Traveling HARUNA - "Somewhere other than here"

——We're following HARUNA's vacation and travel days this time, but SCANDAL also travels a lot. You tour not only in Japan but also do world tours...

HARUNA: That's right. Traveling has become so commonplace that it's become an everyday occurrence. I think there's a part of me that's a little numb to it.

——Traveling is something out of the ordinary, but it's become an everyday thing for you.

HARUNA: I am very grateful for that. After all, there are people who are involved in music but can't travel all over the country and perform live. That's a reality for some of our friends and acquaintances. That's why I think it's amazing that there are people not only all over Japan, but all over the world who know about us and listen to our music. It's so amazing that I sometimes think it's not the reality for us. However, since I am in an environment where I can go to many different places and experience many different cultures, I want to be able to say that I have seen it with my own eyes, felt it with my own skin, and built up experiences. That's why I feel like I can't waste it all. I believe that those experiences will lead to a sense of comfort and self-confidence. Inner beauty and the ability to communicate it properly are all based on experience.

——I think it is being transmitted. The same goes for the attitude toward your fans, which is that it's okay to have different opinions, but I think your ability to recognize each person as an individual comes from the many different people you've met and the world you've seen. You seem to be unfazed no matter what happens, HARUNA.

HARUNA: Ahaha. I certainly don't sway in the slightest. Every time I go overseas, I come back thinking that Japan's attention to detail is amazing, but no matter where or what happens, I might be able to survive to some extent.

——How resolute (laughs). I think traveling as SCANDAL can be very stimulating, but isn't a trip like this one, which calms the mind, completely different?

HARUNA: Yeah. It's different because I don't travel much on my own. Traveling for a concert concerns a large group of people, and the places we go are sometimes limited. Our schedule is packed, so we'll go to one tourist spot and then the rest will be going to the hotel, to the venue, and eating food. It's also important to make your own plans and think, "Let's go to these places" or "I want to see these things." I've been to a lot of different places, both domestically and internationally, but I don't often think about where to go, which train to take, or how many hours to get there on my own, so I want to do lots of those things. I think that would be proportional to age-appropriate experience. I thought that 30-year-olds were more mature because so many things are prepared for them at work. I realized that the reason I feel like I'm not quite mature enough may be because I haven't done those things myself.

——I see. Human activities, huh. Thinking and doing things on your own.

HARUNA: That's important! Very important.

——When we were discussing where to shoot this time, the first thing you said was that you wanted to see the ocean. What made you say that?

HARUNA: I've always been afraid of the ocean. When I was around 3 years old, I went swimming with my family. At that time, I was engulfed by a very high wave. It felt like I was being sucked into the sea and I almost died. My mother was also traumatized after that, so we no longer went to the beach as a family. However, I feel a mysterious connection to the sea. When I look at the ocean, I somehow feel like my soul comes alive. I think it's a mysterious place for me.

——It's also where you wandered between life and death.

HARUNA: Yeah. When I go to the ocean, I feel something more than just feeling healed. I really feel like I'm being purified. It's very refreshing. I almost died when I was three years old, but I survived and am still alive, so maybe that kind of experience makes me feel strange.

——You also want to see the ocean at the milestone of turning 30.

HARUNA: That's right. Whenever I get tired or want to refresh myself, I always want to go to the beach. Isn't the ocean ultimately a natural thing? There's something scary about it, but there is also something calming. I'm not the type of person who's always looking for excitement, either. I prefer a stable daily life, but there comes a point somewhere where you don't want to stay there.

HARUNA's current mood is
"SOMEWHERE" - A place other than here

——This time, you shot in three different bodies of water: The ocean in the morning, the ocean in the evening, and the pool at night. What did you think of it?

HARUNA: Let's see. First, it's not often that I'm photographed in a swimsuit, and also solo, not with the rest of the band. Since this doesn't happen often, I was wondering how I should get my photos taken. One thing I couldn't imagine was shooting in the pool at night, but as a result, those are my favorite photos. Maybe I couldn't imagine it, but we were able to capture more than I could have imagined.

——Those are also expressions you've never shown before.

HARUNA: Yeah. That's why it was a lot of fun to shoot. They've been condensed, but I had all kinds of good encounters. I also found out that I actually really like having my photo taken (laughs).

——Ahaha, that's good to hear.

HARUNA: Also, I realized that I'm not the kind of person who creates something from scratch after all. To be honest, I'm the type who doesn't find much joy in composing songs or writing lyrics. There are many times when I wonder why I'm like that as a vocalist in a band, but on the other hand, I feel so much joy in expressing someone else's ideas. Rather than wanting to embody what I have in mind, I want to see how much I can change something. I'm not the type of person who makes 0 into 1, but rather how big you can make 1. I was reminded of that.

——I think that's definitely a form of creativity. This shoot was done with a minimum number of people and a private atmosphere, but it would not have been possible without HARUNA as the director. It's also a talent to attract people around you and make them happy.

HARUNA: I'm glad you say that! I tried to suit my current mindset and didn't do weird poses. Going in the ocean, relaxing, eating... I wanted to have one day's vacation captured in a natural way, and to let people see me as I really am. I'm glad that we were able to give shape to it, and I think it was a challenge in a sense.

——It also ties in with the meaning of the word "SOMEWHERE."

HARUNA: Yeah. I live my life based on what I think at the time. It's not that I have some big or clear goal, but rather that I want to keep moving without making too many decisions.

——You're honest to your mind and body. Still, you still want to do things you've never done before, and to go towards a world you've not yet seen.

HARUNA: That's right. In that sense, I think the word "SOMEWHERE" is perfect for both me and the band. I'm not really thinking about what I'm going to do or accomplish in the next 10 years by the time I turn 40, but that's why I'm very excited about where I can go and what I'll do next. I want to live my life according to the way I feel at a given time. I want to be honest about how I feel.

•The message theme they asked people to send in is "Mayonaka no Hisohisobanashi" (Whispered Conversations/Secrets In the Middle of the Night). HARU reads the first message from a listener who is a single father of three daughters. His eldest started high school this year and joined the light music club. He was really excited that she would be performing "DOLL" on guitar and vocals at a competition and decided to go see her perform and cheer her on. However, the daughter told him that his ex-wife and the man she had an affair with would also be there to cheer her on. He says that while he was really excited, he was also thrown into the depths of hell. The band goes, "Ahh..." and that it's reasonable that at least the ex would go cheer her daughter on and bring the guy along with her. RINA says that it is complicated, though. MAMI laughs and says that it's complicated in many ways. They tell the dad to hang in there and that they'll send him a coupon for free yogurt.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who says that their secret is that they love to be called cute. Although he's a guy, he liked being called cute more than being called cool. Recently, one of his seniors at work said that he's very feminine and is cute. He likes cute things and has things such as a pink phone and orange car, but this is the first time in years that someone's said he's cute. He says this winter of his 19th year is one where he's been rewarded for having collected cute things in an age where men wear cute things and women wear cool things, and the concept of gender is changing. The band says that cute. RINA says that's nice to be particular about things.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who says that they like smells that most people don't like. He likes things like the slightly miffling smell of hand towels or the smell of his own feet after a long day of sweating from stress at work. He can't help but go, "Ugh!" and smell them over and over again, and has to smell them at least 5 times (TOMO: "Why??"). He says the more something smells, the better it is, but there is a limit and that he's trying to do it in moderation. The band laughs. RINA says that he is trying to be moderate and is smelling his own feet and stuff. TOMO says that those kinds of smells usually signal danger. They say that definitely is a secret. HARU laughs and says that it doesn't seem like any of them seems to be able to relate to it, though.

•HARU then reads that they are taking song requests with the theme "Songs you want your loved ones to hear" and will be airing them along with songs selected by the band. The first song is HARUNA's pick, "Ima -Even if the world ends tomorrow-" by SEVENTEEN. She says she finally got hooked on SEVENTEEN this year and listened to this song a lot. She thinks is wonderful if you have someone special in your life that comes to mind if the world were to end tomorrow. You don't know what the future holds, so you want to cherish the present once again. That's why she chose this song, and wants her loved ones to hear it.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who says that at the local supermarket the other day, there was a Christmas event where they would give you 30% off if you dressed up as Santa. They felt really embarrassed to do so, but the 30% off made them take the plunge and dress up as Santa. When they got there, there were nothing but kids there--it turns out it was an event for children only. They were also very embarrassed to be seen by friends and neighbors while out shopping. The band laughs and says that is embarrassing but a cute story. MAMI says to just act like they're really enjoying Christmas this year, and that they could to go the market several more times dressed up as Santa. TOMO says to be like, "I'm not particularly going for a 30% discount." RINA says to be like, "This is just how much I enjoy December." RINA says that it must have been really embarrassing in the moment. HARU says that the listener probably wanted to hide.

•HARU reads the first song request: "Spider" by Spitz. The listener who requested it says that their mom loves Spitz, and whenever they got in her car when they were a child, Spitz CDs were always playing. "Spider" is one of her favorite songs and played it frequently, so when they hear this song, it brings back memories of when she used to drive them around as a kid and makes them feel nostalgic.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who says that they've actually never used nail clippers. Ever since they were little, when their nails would grow long, they tear off the tips of their nails with their fingers. This goes for both their hands and feet. HARU guesses that the listener's nails must be really soft. TOMO starts going, "It's like a crab..." MAMI laughs and says soft-shelled crab shell. HARU says that her own nails are really thin--for example, if she bathes and her nails get slightly caught on something, it'll start tearing immediately. RINA asks if it's the same for her feet, but HARU's not sure. TOMO asks if it rips off just to the point where it doesn't hurt. HARU says yes. TOMO wonders if that's a good ability since it's convenient. RINA says that there must be times when a little too much gets ripped off. TOMO asks HARU if that's happened to her before. HARU says that her nails being thin isn't something that occurs all the time and just every so often, but she wonders about the listener. RINA wonders if they've gotten skilled at doing it since they've done it for so long. The others think that's probably the case as well.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who hasn't had a boyfriend for 3 years, and currently likes someone who is a hairdresser. They have similar tastes in music, favorite artists, act similar in many ways, etc. When they told him the other day that they wanted to go to a concert of their favorite artist, he asked what time it started. They said that they couldn't go due to their job, and he went, "Ah, guess that settles it." They told a friend about him and they said that that was definitely part of their sales tactic (i.e. be nice to your clients and you'll retain more of them). The listener says that it's true that hairdressers do have a strong sense of communication skills, but they're not sure if they do in fact like him. The band does agree that hairdressers are good at communication. TOMO says that she does understand how you could feel that you're falling for them. RINA wonders what part this salon is located in, and the others agree that it does depend on the area (some are more friendly, etc.). RINA wonders if the listener's from Tokyo, but apparently they didn't write down where they're located. TOMO and MAMI wonder if that's something the hairdressers do for sales tactics if they work for a large company. MAMI says that it sounds like the listener themself isn't even sure how they feel about him yet, which the others agree with. RINA and HARU say that what the hairdresser said about implying they'd go to the concert together if they could have made it on time would certainly make the listener's heart beat fast. TOMO says that concerts usually start between 5-7 pm, which is not a time that a hairdresser would be off by. That's why there's a chance that he knew from the start he'd say, "Ah, I guess that settles it." RINA says that she doesn't know if they're at the level where they've exchanged contact info, but suggest to just stay level-headed and watch the situation so that they won't get hurt. The others agree.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who says that they're married and have children, but since last year they've been addicted to themed cafes and spends within their range of pocket money. They say they're just looking for relaxation and don't feel guilty about going, but they can't tell their family about it; it's a hobby that's hard to talk about. The band laughs and RINA says that's cute. TOMO says that she's unfamiliar with those cafes. MAMI says that there's a big range of them. TOMO asks if it's related to cosplay. MAMI and RINA say some are like that. TOMO says that those sound fun. RINA says that she thinks it's fine to do if it cheers them up, that it's fine for them to have fun with their pocket money, and laughs that they don't need to feel so guilty about it because they're not doing anything bad. The band says that they do understand how the listener feels, though, but what they're doing is totally fine. They also say that it's important if they have fun doing it and it relaxes them. They thank the listener for telling them and say to enjoy keep enjoying doing it, which makes the staff laugh.

•The second song chosen by SCANDAL is "RASEN" by EOW, picked by TOMO. EOW are friends of hers and she went to a concert of theirs recently where they played this song towards thre end and talked about how they were really stuck on the production of this song. Keyboardist mamushi talked about beans and how leaves are the first thing that sprout on them. So as not to get in the way of the new leaves that grow under them, they change their angle a bit so that all of the leaves get sunlight--they start to grown in a spiral ("RASEN" 螺旋 means "spiral" in Japanese) and they all grow together. The band says that's really nice. TOMO says that she chose this song because she also wants to have a relationship with her loved ones with whom she can share the light.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who has been playing the guitar for many years and has performed in front of people. When they look at photos of themselves playing afterwards, they often have an indescribable look on their face. The band starts laughing at this. The listener says that they have a hard time keeping a straight face when concentrating on their performance. The band says that they totally get it. MAMI says that the ones that they upload online are the ones they think are okay, and they choose them from the huge number of photos that their photographers take. Among the ones that aren't chosen are a lot of photos of them with indescribable looks on their faces. TOMO laughs and says that her face gets all flappy-looking. RINA says that's probably because of the angle at which the photos are taken. TOMO says that there are usually like 40 photos like that, which makes them all laugh. MAMI says that she likes those kinds of photos and sometimes will upload them. RINA says that the advice she'd offer the listener is to increase the amount of photos taken. HARU laughs at this. RINA also says that if you develop a relationship with the photographer, you can tell them where would be the best place to shoot you during a certain song. TOMO says that the lighting can make your face look crazy, so it's best to take photos during several different songs. MAMI says to practice poses in the mirror to try and find some that would look cool. HARU says that what you're doing is less than you think you are--you may raise your hand, but you're not raising it as high as you think you are, or you may jump, but you're not jumping as high as you think you are. RINA says that it'd be great if you could get feedback about what part of your face needs improving. Maybe it'd look better if you closed your eyes, adjust the way you open your mouth. She says they might want to do a little more research on their own to see what's making them look a little off. TOMO says to send in some photos if they fix it, which the band laughs at.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who says their best guy friend confessed his feelings for them, and they said they thought it'd be better to remain friends than to go out. After a month, the situation still wasn't going anywhere, and he mysteriously rejected them, saying he thought it'd be better to not go out with them after all. A week later, he told them that he'd likely be getting a girlfriend. Of course they wanted to congratulate him, but they were really bothered by it and realized that they thought they were best friends, but they actually had a crush on him. The band says you do hear this kind of thing from time to time. MAMI wonders why guys have to report stuff like they're getting a girlfriend. She then tells a story of how she and a guy friend in high school in her hometown both liked each other and had remained friends after graduating. As far as she could tell, he never seemed to have had a girlfriend for the longest time (though MAMI wasn't certain since she doesn't live there anymore), so she was wondering if that was because he still had feelings for her. She never had the intention of going out with him, though. That's why she never mentioned anything even though she felt like she got the vibe of him still liking her. But last year or the year before (she can't remember which), he told her he was getting married. She was like, "Great!" but then he said how he wanted to thank her for everything. She was like, "What? Thank you for what?? Why??" The band laughs at this. TOMO thinks he was trying to say something like, "I'm getting married. Are you okay with that?" MAMI goes, "Eh? Go ahead!", which makes them all laugh.

•MAMI was thinking how she wishes them happiness but was still wondering why he's thanking her. RINA says that even though they didn't go out, he probably thought of them as a bit like lovers. TOMO says that people remembering their past relationships seems to happen when they get married. HARU says that he probably thought that MAMI had always liked him. RINA says that that could be the case. TOMO says people do seem to want to report to their exes they're getting married. MAMI asks if it's like he's telling her what she thinks of him getting married. TOMO says she doesn't know. HARU says that maybe that'd make her miss him, and RINA continues that he might think that'll get her to notice how he feels, laughing while saying it. MAMI makes a creeped-out sound and goes, "I'd be like, 'Cut it out! Go get married properly to your actual girlfriend!'" TOMO says that's a pain. RINA says, "Aren't all guys kind of like that?" HARU says not all of them, which RINA agrees with. TOMO says that they have dating people like that, though, which makes them laugh. MAMI wraps it up by saying she felt the same kind of way as the listener, but rather than feeling jilted, she was more like, "What...??" RINA says the listener will be fine and is sure they'll be happy.

•HARU reads the next song request from a listener: "Straw" by aiko. They listen to this song when they're having trouble or if things aren't going well, and the line "I wish good things for you" in the song really resonates with them and reminds them that there are definitely good things in store for them.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener whose story is about their breakup. They used to play SCANDAL songs in the car when they'd go out on dates with their ex-boyfriend, though he didn't really know the songs. They ended up breaking up due to their differences, and the last time they called each other to say goodbye, he said that he listened to "Fuzzy" and thanked them for introducing him to a great song. The listener says that the lyrics to "Fuzzy" were exactly about them: They always loved the time they spent together smoking cigarettes and lounging under the ventilation fan. MAMI says that's heartbreaking. TOMO says that he's a good guy, which makes the others laugh. She says he's certainly a good guy and that was a romantic farewell. HARU says the listener's glad he remembered. RINA says she's glad they made this song.

•HARU reads the next song request from a listener: "Chiisana Koi no Uta" by MONGOL800. The listener says that every time they meet someone they like, they sing this song in front them at karaoke because they want their feelings to reach them. The band laughs hard at this.

•After the song plays, they eat some Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt and then play MAMI's song pick: "Feel Special" by TWICE. MAMI says that she loves this song a lot. TOMO says that it makes you want to tear up. MAMI agrees and says it's a song that says "I can be special because of you." She felt supported by so many people while the band was trying to get their Guinness World Record this year, so she wants to express her gratitude to everyone who supported them. She says it may be a bit presumptuous, but she also chose this song thinking that she can be special because of all their fans.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who says that she doesn't know if this is a story about a secret, but it is about a scary experience she had once. When she went to Hokkaido to see SCANDAL, she went to a Mongolian restaurant afterwards and sat next to a woman with Arashi merch on her. They got to talking and found out that she's a nurse who worked at the same hospital as her in Tokyo, with the listener working on the 8th floor and the lady working on the 9th floor. When the listener returned to Tokyo for work, the following day the lady came down to their ward to borrow something, and the listener was surprised to see her again. Moreover, when she got back home the next day, she found out that the lady lived in the apartment next to her. It had been about a year since she started living them, but she had never met their neighbors before, most likely due to working night shifts. She felt a little shaken and awkward about it all. They both looked each other and laughed. She says that if they had been the opposite sex, it would have been very dramatic. The band is surprised by this. TOMO says it's so fateful.  HARU says that does think them playing a concert in Hokkaido on the same day as Arashi did happen. TOMO says that they're probably going to become best friends. MAMI says the listener probably opened her front door and then happened to see the lady. The band says it does sound like a drama (HARU: "She did say it wouold have been more dramatic if they had been the opposite sex").

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who says that MAMI's story earlier about that guy who liked her reminded her of something. Her then-boyfriend (now-husband) told her about his ex-girlfriend and the listener didn't get over it until he proposed to her. Since she's a very jealous person, she tried very hard to forget about before, and there were many times when it was tough for her, but she's very happy now that they're married. She says she's glad she persevered and got over it. MAMI says that guys really do like to talk about their ex-gfs. RINA wonders, "You're even thinking of getting married, and then you tell your wife-to-be about your ex?" HARU thinks that they probably want to make them jealous. MAMI thinks it's because they want to tell their current lover what happened before. RINA says you shouldn't feel sad about it then. HARU agrees. TOMO again says that this kind of thing is a pain. MAMI says she doesn't really get what kind of psychology they're trying to use. RINA repeats what was said earlier about wanting to make their current lover jealous.

•MAMI then says that a reply has come from a guy about this same kind of topic and reads it, which starts out with, "That's right - The men of the world cannot forget their past relationships." The band bursts out in laughter. He says that the memory of being popular lasts a lifetime, and that they think the girls who have loved them in the past will love them for the rest of their lives. He ends it with an apology about how men are like that. MAMI and RINA say that if you say it clearly and honestly like this, you'll be a lot more likeable. HARU says they should live their lives thinking that way. MAMI says that it's better to live your life understanding things like this and thanks him for sharing his thoughts, which makes the band laugh. HARU says that live broadcasts really are interesting. TOMO says that it makes them happy to get reaction messages.

•HARU reads the next song request: "Ichibu to Zenbu" by B'z. The request is for his wife, who is currently on an overnight boat trip. Their kid, who used to be very attached to the wife, is now in 8th grade. Since his work keeps him busy, he can't attend most of the kid's events, which is why he asks their kid to do outings with him during Golden Week, at the end of the year, and the beginning of the year. He apologizes for all the trouble and thanks her as well. He says that his wife is such a B'z fan to the leven that she only listens to B'z. He hopes that she's able to stretch her wings and relax on the trip. The band cheers at the request for "Ichibu to Zenbu" and says that's awesome.

•They then announce that they have new merch items for the program, including stickers and a pouch. The pouch looks like this. The band says it's really cute and stylish.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener whose girlfriend of three and a half years cheated on them. They don't regret that she cheated on them, but instead regret that they let her cheat on them and think that they could have been there for her more. They think of her every day when they hear "Platform Syndrome" because the scene of the affair was at her place by a train crossing. The band says that must be painful. RINA wonders if they're the type to hurt themselves. TOMO agrees and says it seems like the listener feels like it must have been their fault that she cheated on them, even though they didn't do anything wrong. RINA says that maybe they just got too used to things in those three and a half years. HARU says that maybe they didn't contact each other much anymore. RINA says that maybe they took things for granted. She also says that the listener seems like a sweet person based on their writing, and it doesn't seem like they're the one who did anything bad. HARU laughs sadly before pointing out that they're going out of their way to listen to "Platform Syndrome." RINA says that they're hurting themselves too much. TOMO then wonders if it means that they're not broken up. RINA says they can't be sure since the only thing they wrote was that they were cheated on. TOMO says it sounds like the current situation is that they're listening to the song and thinking of her. MAMI says that probably means they're going "I love you, I hate you, I love you, I hate you" like in the lyrics. TOMO says that they're making this way too painful for themselves, which makes the others laugh. The band then wonders what song is going to play next. There's a pause before they laugh and wonder if they should go with "Platform Syndrome" because of this message. TOMO says they'll show them different kinds of hell.

•After the song's played, RINA says that there was a part of the previous listener's message that was cut by the staff, but she'll now read it. The question is about the lyrics of the song. He asks what situation the lyrics "Nanjuukai mo kizutsukete - Sore yori hitotsu ooku - Yurushite kureta ne (I hurt you dozens of times over - And you forgave me - One too many times)" describe. They think it's that the other party broke up with the speaker because they wouldn't forgive them for their last fight, and thought that there were more situations where they were forgiven one less time than they were hurt. RINA laughs and says that's way too complicated. TOMO says that if you're the one who dumped the other person, you fight, and at the end you break up because you can't forgive them. So rather than being forgiven for one more thing, it's more like subtracting one because they couldn't be forgiven for something they did. HARU says, "And the actual answer is...?" RINA, who wrote the lyrics, says that that interpretation is correct. She also says, "When you're together, there are many moments when you hurt each other. And when you break up, you look back and realize that you were able to be in a relationship because one of you forgave the other many times. One person was willing to put up with or forgive the other more each time. It's a regret that you only realize later." There's a pause before HARU goes, "Got it?", as if talking to the listener. They all laugh. TOMO hope that the listener's okay. RINA says that it might make life easier for him if he just thinks simply about stuff. She thinks he's a very kind person, so she hopes he doesn't make things too hard on himself or think too hard. HARU says that the listener is probably crying right now, which makes RINA laugh. RINA says that she thinks he'll be okay and will definitely meet someone else, since he's only 23 years old right now.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who currently has two people she likes. One is older, in his 30s, smart, good at his job, has money, a house, and a car. He is a handsome man who is near perfect by anyone's standards. The other one is younger, in his early 20s, has no money, no house, no car, and is barely getting by, but he's a handsome guy whose kindness is second to none (MAMI: "So they're both handsome guys, huh"). The older one is quite popular, and he plays with women so much that she's always worried that he might disappear at any moment. The younger one is very single-minded and has a sweetness of a younger man that she misses. His behavior towards her is also very gung-ho. But he's barely able to make ends meet, so if they start dating, she'll feel like she'll have to work hard, and has a hard time responding to love. She'd overall like to date the older guy, but she thinks it'll be pretty difficult to get him to look her way. She wonders if she'll ever be able to have a good love life, and says she can't help but feel anxious when she thinks about it late at night. TOMO goes, "Is this an otome game or what?" The others laugh. HARU says it's like she's trying to choose her final love. RINA says she thinks neither are the right ones for her. She goes, "Do you want to spend the rest of your life with someone who has all those specs but no love for you and plays around with women?" She also says that if she's happy to spend her time that way, then she guesses it's fine. TOMO says that it sounds like the youngest is best. RINA brings up that the listener did say she'd be worried to be with him (due to money issues). MAMI says the listener's at the point of the game where she has to choose what to do. RINA says to run away, which makes them laugh. There may be love waiting for her after running away and getting over those worries. MAMI says that the older guy might look her way, or the younger guy might get a stable job. HARU says that if the younger guy can hang in there, he might do well. MAMI agrees, and then says she should push the button to run away. All of them laugh. RINA says it could be good to give things more time and see what happens. HARU says to run away before a battle happens." TOMO goes, "This is an otome game, though! They don't fight," which they laugh at. MAMI says to just wait in front of the loading screen for a bit. RINA says that the listener has many options. MAMI and TOMO mention the late night aspect and that everyone worries late at night, so she should get some sleep and think about it later.

•RINA's song pick is played next: "Atashi no Zenbu wo Aisenai" by Ako. She says she loves all of Ako's music and has been following her for a long time. They actually had a chance to connect and Ako came to see SCANDAL live and became good friends. When RINA heard this song for the first time, the title of it was impactful. She feels there are a lot of people who are trying to boost their self-esteem these days, and she thinks this song is a way of affirming that it's okay to feel like that some days. The lyrics also made her feel that it's okay to live a little more selfishly. She says it's a song that'll relax your mind from a different angle, so she hopes people listen to it with care.

•They read a message next, and it's prefaced by the staff saying it's a reaction to a previously read message. MAMI starts reading it, and it's from the listener who said earlier that they liked going to concept cafes, though this time they changed their pseudonym to "Concept cafe-loving dad." They say, "As we talked at a concafe [with an employee], we had a favorite band in common, which was KEYTALK. They always get me excited. So, I would like to request my favorite song, 'MONSTER DANCE.'" The band erupts and laughter and goes, "Wait a minute!" and says that the content's changed from what they had mentioned earlier. TOMO asks MAMI to read the message again. They laugh and RINA says it must mean that that cafe employee is important to them. HARU says that this is actually a song request message. RINA says that she would have liked to have heard more about the cafe and what those two talked about. TOMO says that there's a possibility it was a monster-themed cafe, which they all laugh at. MAMI goes, "You mean like a KEYTALK-themed cafe?" They laugh at this as well. They say that "MONSTER DANCE" is a good song for this time of night, but they can't fulfill the song request since it was too abrupt. They say that KEYTALK is a good band and the song is also good, that SCANDAL had actually covered the song in the past, and that they played a joint-band concert with KEYTALK recently.

•TOMO starts to read the next message but mistakenly says this person's pseudonym is "Masamasa," which is the name that cafe guy used. They all start laughing before TOMO says she goofed and this person's name is actually "Makimaki." The listener says that this isn't something they can tell many people to, but when they eat at home, they enjoy eating very badly mannered. They eat with their elbows on their knees, with their mouth wide open, and with a lot of noise. They live their life thinking that no one is going to get mad at them even though they're eating so badly, and that it's delicious. They ask, "Don't you think scenes in movies of people munching down food look delicious?" The band laughs and says it's cute how they don't want others to find out about this bad habit of theirs. RINA says that there certainly are certain things that you can do when you're alone. MAMI says that they're the same as that listener earlier how likes the smell of weird things like hand towels. TOMO jokes that only idiots listen to this program.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who planned to go to so many SCANDAL things (tour, signings) that there were some days they weren't able to take paid leave. They really wanted to attend all of the concerts [on the "unlimited UTOPIA" tour, most likely], so they skipped work on those days to go to them. One of their followers on social media is a co-worker who is in a different department, which is why they say this is a secret. The band thanks them for attending all of the events.

•They then start to close out the program with "MONSTER DANCE." HARU laughs at how they were able to fit it in. RINA says that they can use this as a talking point the next time they go to that cafe. MAMI says that the other person will get really excited. As they're trying to close out the program, HARU says she never imagined they'd be closing it with this song. They laugh at how people coming across this program might think it's actually a KEYTALK one.

•HARU asks how their first late-night live broadcast was. They say it was fun. RINA says that the content they receive changes depending on the time of day. MAMI says that ones sent after 3 am are like they're getting desperate. They say everyone's messages were of high quality and that they want to do something like this again. They're then told that the program will actually end with a SCANDAL song, which they're glad about. "Yoake no Ryuuseigun" is played since it's almost 'yoake' (dawn). They thank everyone for tuning in.

Listen to the after talk:
https://audee.jp/voice/show/73917

•HARU says that it suddenly got really hot during the last part of the broadcast. MAMI says it was interesting. RINA says it was exciting. HARU says that it was their first time doing a two-hour recording and their first time broadcasting late at night. Live broadcasts are also a rare thing for them as well. She then realizes that they never did call any listeners after all. RINA says that the real-time exchange of messages in response to what the band was saying was something that could only happen during a live broadcast. They say it was really interesting. HARU says it was interesting enough that they'd want to do a live broadcast for every episode. RINA says they get to know things about listeners that they wouldn't during a normal episode. They laugh and agree.  HARU says that talks about secrets are good to do. RINA says it made her go, "So you guys do these things, huh..." TOMO says that the most interesting things are the things people don't normally talk about. MAMI says that she's sure there are others who can relate to things that were mentioned. RINA says there totally must be.

•They then talk about how the concept cafe guy was interesting. TOMO says that it's fine to think of going to concept cafes as a secret, but she wishes they would have thought twice about the "MONSTER DANCE" mention since this was a live broadcast. They laugh at that. HARU says that their program got hijacked at the end. MAMI brings up how he had used one pseudonym for the first message but changed it to "Concept cafe-loving dad" for the next one. She's glad that it was easy to understand who he was, though. RINA says that he must have been excited when his message was read. TOMO says to send anymore messages with the second pseudonym in the future. RINA says that they'll recognize it, which makes them laugh. HARU says it's impressive to get recognized in one day. RINA says that it's funny to think that people with such personalities and characters come to their concerts. TOMO says it's adorable.

•HARU wonders if there's anything else they should look back on. RINA says that it'd be nice to put together a playlist of songs that were aired. MAMI wonders if "MONSTER DANCE" should be on it. HARU says it's okay to add it since that whole bit was interesting. TOMO says they'll close it out with "Yoake no Ryuuseigun." MAMI says she's glad for the cafe guy. TOMO says that things really calmed down the moment it went from "MONSTER DANCE" to "Yoake no Ryuuseigun." RINA says it was like they were recognizing the sound of themselves. MAMI says it was like they were finally getting to talk about themselves. HARU laughs and says that playing "MONSTER DANCE" during their own radio program felt really strange. RINA says it felt new.

•They say that they'd love to do this again. HARU says that they really hung in there to do a broadcast at this time of day/night. RINA says they had discussed recording this kind of episode instead, but she's glad they hung in there and did the live broadcast instead. HARU says that they are really busy right now and haven't had a break so they were kind of worried whether they'd be okay doing this broadcast, but on the contrary, they feel more energized. MAMI says it feels like they can work hard again tomorrow. TOMO says that they have to record tomorrow. RINA says that she'll be recording drums in just a few more hours. HARU says that she thinks they've had this kind of conversation before. RINA says that they've had this kind of schedule many times before. HARU clarifies that she thinks they did this same schedule for their previous live broadcast. But this is their usual kind of schedule, after all. RINA says that it's the end of the year as well. They say they'll keep doing their best.

Music Natalie - HARUNA's "Top 3 in 2023" - Fri Dec 29, 2023 8:32 pm

Music Natalie - HARUNA's "Top 3 in 2023"

"We were able to leave a record that is unique to only us"

Topics tagged under front-page on SCANDAL HEAVEN - Page 5 VIpoCzpb_o

There are only a few days left in 2023. Music Natalie is holding a year-end project called "Top 3 in 2023," in which various artists introduce three topics that were memorable for them this year. In this ninth installment, we asked HARUNA of SCANDAL, who celebrated their 17th anniversary and established the Guinness World Record for "Longest running rock band with the same musicians (female)," to look back on 2023.

#1: Celebration! 17th anniversary of formation
Topics tagged under front-page on SCANDAL HEAVEN - Page 5 RxvlAFyL_o

From their 17th anniversary concert "Sekai Ichi," which marked the moment their Guinness World Record was established.

This summer we celebrated our 17th anniversary. We were able to leave a record that we are the only all-girl band in the world that has continued for over 17 years with no member changes and no hiatuses. This was a day we praised ourselves once again for our hard work, and were thankful for many things.

#2: Playing live in Brazil
Topics tagged under front-page on SCANDAL HEAVEN - Page 5 Ru6xmTCm_o

SCANDAL performed at "ANIME FRIENDS 2023" in São Paulo, Brazil.

We've toured the USA, Europe, Asia, and many other countries during our career, but this year we were able to perform in Brazil for the first time. We also had a chance to meet local fans, and we were very moved as some of them told us with tears in their eyes, "I've been waiting for over 10 years!" The excitement during the concert was also awesome!

#3: Our first signing events
Topics tagged under front-page on SCANDAL HEAVEN - Page 5 5wPGC026_o

From the signing events to celebrate the release of single Line of sight.

This year we held signing events for the first time at our CD release events! It was a heart-warming time to hear so many happy words from everyone who came, including their impressions of our concerts and how they fell in love with the band. I feel like our bond has grown even stronger over the past year where we had many chances to meet with everyone outside of concerts!

Looking back on 2023

In 2023, we celebrated our 17th anniversary and the 15th anniversary of our debut, so I think it was a year in which we looked back on our history and thought more about our future than ever before. I'm very happy we made some good songs and played good concerts. We'll do our best to have our music reach even more people next year.

Album production is in its final stages.
We've finished recording all instruments and vocals,
And the mixing process had been going on one after another,
But today that process is complete〜!

Big speakers, small speakers,
Phones, computers, earphones, car speakers--
We tried different listening methods
To find the balance that feels the most comfortable and wonderful.

We're focused on making the most out of everything!
We're already very attached to it! haha
It'll still be a while
Before you guys can listen to it,
But since we really did work hard on it, please look forward to it

Two days ago, we did the interview for
"her" Magazine Vol.4,
The magazine that'll come as a bonus☑

When we launched our imprint label,
We decided to create our own magazine
That would provide
The most in-depth information about us,
And we've continued to do this project.
I can't believe this next one is the fourth one.

However, this time,
We will almost double the number of pages than the previous ones.
There are tons of new photos
As well as pages focused on us individually, and introductions to all songs.

I think those who want to know how songs came to be,
The thoughts behind them, the stories behind them, etc.,
Will enjoy it a lot‎???? ????????

Aah,,,
Sound production and mastering are the only things left to do.
Today is the last day of our music activities for now.
We really did work hard this yearrrr
Thank you so muchhhh!!!

Have you guys been doing wellー?

For those who have finished your work,
Thanks so much for your hard work over the past year☑
Those of you who still plan to work,
Let's get through this last bit togetherー!

This year as well, I was asked to write many things
For many different places.
I'm very grateful.
My column series on Movie Natalie
Has been updated for the last time this year☺

If you're thinking about
Spending your New Year's relaxing
And watching a movie at home,
Please take a look at this article♡

This series started in 2021,
And each time I've watched various movies
And summarized them in about 1,000 words.
I've put a lot of thought
Into every article that I have carefully written☺
So I hope you enjoy it☑

Come to think of it, I remember
That I really liked writing book reports and the like
Since I was in elementary school...
It's really interesting
How we can feel different things even when we look at the same thing.

Well then, that's all for today

LUMINOUS - 2023-12-27 (RINA) - Thu Dec 28, 2023 6:27 am

LUMINOUS
Theme:RINA

Topics tagged under front-page on SCANDAL HEAVEN - Page 5 DHiyEBg

As announced,
2024.03.20 NEW Album
LUMINOUS will be released!

This will be
Our 11th original studio album.
Albums are guideposts
And set the mood for all our activities that year

There's still a little bit of production left to do,
And the four of us are enjoying and cherishing making it

The title "LUMINOUS"
Has meanings such as
Radiant/bright/clear.

For the past few years,
Starting a little before the pandemic,
It was as if the four of us
Had groped our way through the fog,
Holding each others' hands tightly so as not to veer off course.
As we got lost, we pushed our way through,
And, in any case, we struggled and trudged onward.

We were worried about many things,
And there were many times when we couldn't find an answer
To where we were ultimately headed.
Over the course of our 17-year career,
We've aged from middle/high schoolers to now,
And even as a woman, I have come across topics
That I had never considered before.

I don't know if it's right
To just do the same thing over and over again and only move forward,
But there were days when it seemed like a bad idea
To move forward in your life as a person,
Despite the band itself growing.

I think each of us had a variety of feelings
During the production period of this album,
But at all such times,
We faced the band
And honestly and frankly created music
With 100% purity.
At any rate, we felt that creating something with a high level of purity
Was what we needed next.

The result
Is a very pure set of songs.

When the whole picture became clear,
The word "LUMINOUS" came up
When we had a meeting to decide on the title.
That was when all four of us felt it click at the same time,
And there's something about the feeling I had at that moment
That is on a level that words cannot explain.
It always gives me a very mysterious feeling.
We then felt relieved.
It means the vectors of our minds are aligned.

Several days have passed since then,
And as we've been continuing to work on it
And seeing our fans' faces at our concerts,
It's started to feel like
We're getting closer to the light at the end of a long tunnel,
And we've come to believe
That this was the right choice to make,
Whatever place may lie ahead,
And that that place will absolutely be glowing.

That is because
We ourselves are emitting the light.

I feel that touring
In support of this album
Will take us and all you guys
To a new and brighter place.

To be able to exchange gifts this year too haha

Also, the cute merch
Is now for sale on our online store!
Those who weren't able to come to the concert
And those who missed out on buying them at the venue,
Get some as a souvenir, if you'd like✓
More and more items are selling out, so get them while you can♡

By the way, the band recommends
The striped long-sleeve shirt and the sherpa fleece tote٩( ´ω` )و

Since it only lets you post 15 photos per blog,
The band photo set is in this blog

At each performance this year,
We've been digging up various past songs
And performing them- ̗̀‎⛧

Thank you to everyone
Who saw us in various places.
Thank you to everyone
Who couldn't make it to our concerts but still listened to our music.

Thanks to you guys,
We are filled with gratitude and love
For another year
That we were able to finish out
And not have any regrets!

For fan club content when we had talked about our resolutions this year,
I said that I wanted to make it a year
That lived up to everyone's expectations,
And I'm happy to see that happened
In many ways☺

And,
It was also a year
In which I felt that how that we're constantly making new music,
That we're always planning our next concert,
And that the four of us have been able to continue as a band
Are all things that we can't afford to take for granted.

That's why I think over and over again
That I want to cherish each and every thing
That is important to us,
Whether it's plans that we have
Or being able to accomplish them successfully

There's one week left this year!
There's still plenty of time left
To do whatever you want☑

I'm sure many of you are busy,
But I hope your days are healthy and wonderful...!
We'll work together a little more
And do our bestー!

Merry Christmas♡

Our last solo concert of the year:
We had a great time this year too
At Toyosu PIT for BEST Xmasssss

Thanks so much for spending
A wonderful Christmas Eve with usー!!!

This year, we did 3 dance songs at the start- ̗̀‎⛧
The four of us became Morning Musume.,
Dobondobondo came to Japan for the first time in forever,
And we performed "SCANDAL IN THE HOUSE" -
We kicked off the festivities with those٩( ´ω` )و

It was funnn
This past year--
Rather, since I first started playing music,
My life has been full of twists and turns with so many things happening,
But I think the fact that there are still nights
Where I'm glad that the four of us are a band
Is a source of support and comfort for me

This year in particular
The four of us worked really hard!
This was the hardest we've ever worked!
We released 2 singles,
Did 2 tours,
Went to Brazil,
Got a record for being the best in the world,
Appeared at lots of events & festivals,
Made our 11th album.
We've really done well to make it here.
I didn't think we'd be doing all this in our 18th year.
It's crazy.
These days have been filled with joy.

There are lots
Of things I want to write and photos I want to post,
So I'll close things here and post another blog later✓

Update about the South Korea performance - Sun Dec 24, 2023 7:46 am

An update about the South Korea performance that was originally part of the KFTD world tour:

Thank you very much for your continued support of SCANDAL.

SCANDAL was scheduled to perform in South Korea in 2020, promoted by the local subsidiary Sweet Jane (hereinafter referred to as “Sweet Jane”). Although many people purchased tickets for the following performance, it was postponed after determining it would be difficult to hold the event as planned due to the impact of COVID-19.

Title: SCANDAL WORLD TOUR 2020 “Kiss from the darkness”
Date: May 23, 2020
Venue: West Bridge Live Hall (6 Wausan-ro 25-gil, Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea)

We have continued to discuss the possibility of holding a rescheduled performance with the promoter since then. However, due to difficulties such as schedule adjustment, we have determined that it will be difficult to hold a rescheduled performance, and have been discussing the possibility of refunding the tickets.

However, Sweet Jane has not made any announcement or reported on the refund procedure, citing the company’s financial difficulties. They have not responded to notices issued by attorneys requesting that the procedure be carried out, and as of today (12/23/2023), we have been unable to contact the company.

Although it is not preferable that SCANDAL, the performer, and ROOFTOP INC., the managing office, to make this announcement instead of the ticket-selling promoter, we have decided that in light of the above situation, it is distressing and unacceptable to keep you waiting without informing you of the situation.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to the ticket purchasers, and for the delay in reporting the situation.

Please note that Sweet Jane’s customer support center below accepts requests and comments regarding ticket refunds, and can be reached at the following web page

http://sweetjane.kr/us/service/index.php

We will continue to contact Sweet Jane through our coordinator and hope to encourage the company to respond in good faith. Due to the above situation, we regret that we are unable to respond to individual inquiries. We appreciate your understanding.

Finally, we would like to apologize once again for any inconvenience this may cause to those who purchased tickets to the performance.

ROOFTOP INC.

【Translated Summary】
『SCANDAL Catch up supported by Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt』 - Season 2, Episode 37

Topics tagged under front-page on SCANDAL HEAVEN - Page 5 T4yfcqy
Topics tagged under front-page on SCANDAL HEAVEN - Page 5 KIePGYI

•The episode starts with this.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener whose messages are always read on the program, who says that they recently got married. They first started dating their now-wife right after "Catch up" started airing. The band congratulates them. MAMI says that time sure does fly by.

•MAMI reads the next message from a listener who's currently in their final year of high school, and they've had a crush on someone since their first year of middle school. They say they started to talking to them because they were sitting next to each other, and before they knew it, they had fallen in love with them. They're attending different schools now but exchange DMs regularly and go to the movies together. After graduating, the listener plans to get a job and also attend college in a neighboring prefecture. They want to tell them how they feel someday but can't find the courage to do so. They ask SCANDAL if they have any advice. The band is surprised the crush has been going on for 6 years now. They say that it seems like the crush feels comfortable with the listener since they've been in touch all this time. They wonder if it would become a long distance relationship since the listener says they plan to go out of the prefecture for college. TOMO says that if it's something like Tokyo and Kanagawa, it would just be one train ride away. They say that maybe a movie date would be the best place to talk about it. They could go see a movie and then talk things over at dinner. TOMO says that she thinks it's better to tell the crush how they feel before their environment changes. HARU says that if the listener doesn't mind approaching the crush first, she thinks it's okay to be a little aggressive. They say to let them know what happens next.

•RINA reads the next message from a listener who asks the band for advice. They haven't been in a relationship for a long time, so they don't know if it's fun to talk to someone because they like them or if they enjoy being friends. They met this person on Twitter because they both liked SCANDAL and exchanged DMs. The first time they met was at SCANDAL's 15th anniversary concert and they spent almost the whole day together, including going to SCANDAL-related places. After the concert they exchanged LINE info and talked about things like SCANDAL, anime, and other things they have in common. They enjoy talking to them as much as they enjoy talking to their good friends. They wonder if it's because they have so much in common, or if it's because they like them. They ask SCANDAL what they think. HARU says that's difficult to say. TOMO says that it's awesome either way, which makes the others laugh. MAMI says that the listener's starting to become more aware of their feelings at this point, and says that you usually don't think that you like a friend if you just consider them a friend, which the others agree with. TOMO says that the listener is saying that they haven't been in love for a long time and have forgotten what it feels like, so it's like they're wondering if what they feel is love or not. MAMI and RINA agree that the listener might be feeling love since they are considering it could be. HARU wonders what the other party feels about the listener. TOMO says that they are definitely enjoying each other's company since they have the same interests, so even if they're not feeling love, they're at least really good friends. It's hard to find someone who has so many shared interests as you, after all. She says that maybe there'll come a time when the listener starts to understand their feelings more, but either way, the other party's an important person to them. HARU wonders if they'd want to talk about things other than their shared interests. MAMI mentions how they spend a day going around places together, which probably isn't something you'd do unless you felt okay with each other. HARU brings up that that was related to the shared interests aspect, and again wonders if the listener would want to talk about casual stuff like something they ate recently that was delicious. RINA says that maybe they should try talking more about themselves with each other/ask each other things. They say that they're interested to see how their relationship might progress, and to let them know if anything happens.

•HARU reads the next message from a listener who attended the Nagoya performance of Kanshasai vol.2 with a friend from elementary school and a colleague from work. They also went to the Tokyo performance and went with another colleague from work. They work in the same department and were seated behind and in front of each other for the welcoming ceremony at work. They talked before the ceremony and became friends, and when they saw their phone wallpaper on the bus back home, they realized that it was a SCANDAL one. That's when they immediately clicked. The band says that that was fate, and that you do get excited when you find out someone's favorite artist is the same as yours. TOMO says that that's awesome that both their favorite artist is SCANDAL, and is a little surprised; she'd understand it better if their favorite artist was one like YOASOBI (who is very popular now). That makes the others laugh hard.

•TOMO reads the next message from a listener who is a newbie who has only started listening to SCANDAL recently. It all started with a person they met at the TOKYO ISLAND festival this past June, who told them that everything he does affects SCANDAL (the band is confused and TOMO laughs), and very enthusiastically told them his recommended SCANDAL songs. After, they started listening to the songs and watching videos on YouTube. Although they only got to see the last half of SCANDAL's set at that festival due to missing the bus, they attended the Muginotoki event in November and saw SCANDAL perform their acoustic set. They say they're sure they wouldn't have been able to see this performance if that person hadn't recommended them with such passion, and they're grateful he told them about SCANDAL. The band is surprised that the listener found out about them that way, and even found their way to "Catch up." They say they're happy to hear things like that. TOMO says that events are sometimes short and it's not possible to convey 100% of who they are, but it makes her really happy that there are people who take interest in them and make it this far, which is not a typical thing. RINA says she's also curious about this fan who told the listener about SCANDAL. They laugh and HARU goes, "Who is this?!" and that they definitely eat only Meiji Bulgaria Yogurt. They ask either the listener or the guy to write in and tell them what he said.

What action do the band members take when they sense it's someone's first time seeing SCANDAL live?

HARUNA: So...

RINA: We'll be reading messages!

HARUNA: Yes, let's read them.

Choco

Good evening, SCANDAL!

The other day, I participated in OSAKA DREAM LIVE with my daughter. I told my friend's son, who used to be in a SCANDAL cover band at his high school, about it beforehand, and he said, "I definitely want to go! I want to see SCANDAL!" So I decided to go with my friend, and our high-school and middle-school children.

I was a bit intimidated by all the young kids in the venue, but we were seated in the middle of the front row, and as a fan club member, I knew I had to get them excited! So, forgetting that I was a parent or guardian, I shouted and waved my arms around as much as I could. I didn't care if the young people around me were drawn in to me--I just wanted to send my love to SCANDAL for the last time this year, so I held my original TOMOMI towel and waved my hands. TOMO waved to me and HARU made a heart for me at the end. I was so happy.

My daughter, who had basically never been to a concert before, was frozen by the loud sound, but she said, "It was fun, including your nerdy side." My high-school friend's son said, "SCANDAL was great! I want to go again!" I'm sure there were many other young people who were touched by the concert, and I would like to spread the goodness of SCANDAL even more.

HARUNA: I remember that.

TOMOMI: Yeah, I saw them.

HARUNA: "OSAKA DREAM LIVE" was a free event where mainly students and their parents could attend together, so it was a valuable opportunity.

RINA: The atmosphere was different from usual, and it seemed like most of the audience was seeing us for the first time.

HARUNA: It was totally different from other events, such as solo concerts, so I was really happy to hear them get loud and raise their hands!

MAMI: Yeah.

TOMOMI: It's very helpful when someone takes the initiative to get loud at a concert like that, so the people around you get involved too.

HARUNA: It had been a long time since we could all sing "Shunkan Sentimental" together.

MAMI: It felt fresh.

RINA: I thought it was great that new people were watching us, and even though "Shunkan Sentimental'' was the first song, we realized that there were a lot of people who were listening to it for the first time. We felt like we had to guide them, and a switch was flipped on for all four of us. That was interesting.

HARUNA: Yeah.

RINA: I tried to put my feelings in words and show them in a way that could be enjoyed even if people didn't know the songs, so I put a different kind of energy into it.

HARUNA: It was good, wasn't it? It was our last time in Osaka this year.

•The episode starts with this.

•The second hobby suggested is geocaching. The band is confused as to what it means and is. HARU reads off the explanation: "Geocaching is, in a word, an evolution of the treasure hunt game (TOMO: "I like the sound of that").  A participant hides a secret box called a geocache somewhere. Then, they register the information of the location on an official site. Then, other participants who have seen the information visit the site and try to find the cache. The hiding places are very varied, such as between stones, under a tree, in a pipe, in foodstuffs, etc. The size of the boxes vary from Tupperware to beanbag-sized boxes. Sometimes they are disguised as tree roots, rocks, switch boxes, poles, or other objects rather than boxes. Inside the small box is a logbook on which the finder's name is written. If it's Tupperware-sized, it contains some treasure. There are over 6 million participants worldwide."

•The band says they've never heard of this before. TOMO says they should do it for this program. They say that maybe they could leave something for listeners to find. MAMI says that it's kind of like their Mystery Tours they've held in the past (basically a treasure hunt). TOMO says they should put some of their new program merch into a Tupperware and hide it somewhere. HARU says they could also hide stickers around. Ono then mentions that the place in Japan that has the most hidden geocache items is Aichi Prefecture. TOMO asks how many there are. He says around 2,000. HARU asks where geocaching first started out from, which Ono doesn't know. Then then talk about how they could do this whenever they tour overseas since the program doesn't ship items outside of Japan. HARU wonders if there are people who handle the logbooks inside of the boxes--for example, is there anyone who would add new sheets after it fills up? They end it by saying that they'll look into geocaching more. TOMO says that it's totally a candidate for a hobby.

•The third hobby suggested is searching for UFOs. TOMO immediately says she loves that, which makes MAMI laugh. HARU reads: "NASA announced the launch of a program to track unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), including unidentified flying objects (UFOs), on April 14. NASA has entered the UFO exploration field in earnest. NASA's independent team of 16 scientists has spent a year investigating the realities of the UAP search. The report concluded that a rigorous, evidence-based approach was needed, leading to the formal launch of the program." RINA wonders if what's being suggested means finding UFOs as a hobby. The staff is heard laughing in the background.

•MAMI says that the other day in India, planes weren't able to fly due to a UFO (link to an article about it). The others are curious. MAMI continues that they don't know if it was a UFO or not, but an unidentified flying object showed up at an airport. HARU goes, "Really? It showed up at an airport?" MAMI says yes, and that planes weren't able to take off for 1-2 hours. TOMO says that an airport is an easy place to land at, after all, which makes the staff laugh. HARU wonders what happened with the UFO after. MAMI says that it disappeared. HARU goes, "What does 'disappeared' mean?!" MAMI says that it went off somewhere. HARU asks if that means it flew off. MAMI says she thinks so and seems to find an article online about it. HARU goes, "This is seriously like E.T." MAMI reads more and says airport operations were suspended for 3 hours, and that the object hasn't been identified. TOMO wonders if that means that it landed. MAMI reads more of what it says (just check the above-mentioned link if you want to read about it). TOMO says that she can imagine UFOs being the size of an airplane or an alien about the size of a human, but there might already be invisble UFOs among us right now. She also says that there might be a lot of fake videos going around of UFO sightings, but she thinks it's highly likely that actual UFOs are ones that we can't even imagine. MAMI says that there could be UFOs just going by normally like cars. The band agrees that this would be a fun hobby. TOMO says that they could talk about this kind of stuff forever. RINA says that it would probably mean they should always live their lives with UFOs in mind. MAMI says that her mom always seems to see UFOs. HARU says that they did talk about that on the program before.

•The fourth hobby suggested is mahjong. TOMO says that she's been playing it recently after being taught how to play by a friend. The staff says something unintelligble in the background that makes MAMI say how she doesn't understand the rules at all, and RINA and HARU say the same. TOMO says that you do need a friend who understands how to play. RINA wonders if she has any friends who play. MAMI says that she has a lot, but she's personally not very interested in playing. HARU says that it might be an easy hobby to get started with. TOMO says that it'll get your brain moving, which the others agree with.

•The fifth and last hobby suggested is digging for fossils. They all seem to really like this idea. MAMI says she used to go often in elementary school and found a shell from hundreds of thousands of years ago. TOMO says that she used to have a kit for digging up fossils. RINA says that she used to love corners [at museums and such, most likely] where you could dig up fake dinosaur fossils. They all agree that this sounds like a really nice hobby. RINA says that they should go dig for fossils. HARU says that she saw something on the news about how they're trying to revive woolly mammoths. TOMO and MAMI say that they're trying to cross mammoth DNA with modern elephants and birth them that way. RINA wonders if that'd be okay to do. TOMO says that it could disrupt the balance of things. MAMI says that it'll be like the earth is being reborn. TOMO says that they're basically trying to create an elephant that is resistant to the cold. MAMI says that the ice age will be coming. HARU wonders if it actually will come.

•They round up the hobbies mentioned and say that they'll look for UFOs and dig up fossils (MAMI: "And get done in by mammoths"). HARU says that it seems that geocaching is one that they could probably start doing soon. RINA says that they'll need to look up details and such first. HARU says that she does want to go and look for geocaches and wonders if there are any closeby. TOMO says that there are probably over 100 of them at Yoyogi Park, and there might even be some right next to their places. They thank the staff for putting this list of hobbies together. TOMO says that there weren't any that they'd definitely not do. HARU says that there are some that some members already do, like bonsai and mahjong.
