Hello everybody,

I'm from Wiesbaden in Germany and have only recently discovered this forum.

I saw SCANDAL for the first time in 2017 on the anniversary show of Nena on German TV and I really loved their version of a Nena song.
So I watched some videos on youtube and found out what great music they are doing and that they are very good musicians.
Also, I find it interesting to see how the band evolved over time.

I noticed MAMI especially.
I think it's good that she has her own style and lives it consistently.

Anyway, I'm happy to be here and hope for a good exchange with the other forum members.

Hello wiesenau, welcome to the forum.

It’s great that you discovered Scandal through the Nena special.  I was hoping they would generate new fans with that show.  Their performance as pretty good.

Germany is no slouch when it comes to good rock music.  A few of my favorite hard rock bands come from there, particularly Michael Schenker, who’s my favorite guitarist.  When Scandal comes to California in September I’ll also be seeing Helloween inbetween the two Scandal dates.  It will be quite a weekend.

I don’t particularly have a favorite member, but I do lean towards Mami since I’m a guitarist as well.  I like her subtly; how she never overplays in the song.  I do wish she would take longer solos (at least in concert), but that’s a small issue.

Do you play any instruments yourself?

Let's hope that they come soon back to Germany.  .clap.

Unfortunately, I do not play any instrument, but I would like to learn guitar.
Maybe I'll do that someday.

Halo wiesenau! (Or was that the German for 'hello?') Haha

Welcome to Scandal Heaven! The international forum for the best fans of the best band in the world!

Okay that was kinda cheesy. Haha. But seriously, we are very diverse here. We have members from all over the world who are all very friendly so just sit back and enjoy the forum.

And oh, what a coincidence! I watched Youtube vids of that show just this week! Man, them girls were killing it! Haha. Btw, what song are you referring to? or are you referring to both? Personally, I was deeply captivated by their rendition of Willst du mit mir gehen. I was very glad too that I was introduced to Nena because of SCANDAL. A great singer, she is. I swear I heard her 99 Luftballoons when I was kid but I can't remember when and where. I do not also have much knowledge of German music but hey at least I'm a fan of Angela Merkel.  .chesttap. And I hope you can share a little bit of your country's music.  [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Also, I advise you to begin with the guitar already. Sometimes, people here suddenly talks about guitars and stuff and people who don't play, like me, are getting out of place. Haha.

Hope you enjoy this forum! Again, welcome to Scandal Heaven!

Hi! It seems that many German music fans started to love Scandal even more after watching Nena's TV special.

Just to let you know that I grew up listening to a few new wave acts like Alphaville as a child. I just knew that recently that they are German. I also enjoyed listening to German industrial music such as KFMDM, Die Krupps and Rammstein during my college days.

Welcome to the club and have fun! Hope to see you in Berlin between 2019-20.

MamiNoodles,
XOXO, LOL!

Hello everybody,

Thank you for the other warm welcome greetings. What I've read so far is really just a lot of nice people in the forum who treat each other with respect. I really like that.

"Hallo" is the less formal greeting in Germany, which I would use here in the forum. „Guten Tag“ is something more formal and would not quite fit.

I like both songs from the Nena Show.
To "Willst Du mit mir gehn," SCANDAL made a rock song out of it. The original by Nena contains more electronic elements, which I do not like quite so.
Since I've been an Nena fan for many years, I really like "99 Lufballon".
I found the idea of singing this song in several languages cool. It shows that this song is known in many countries of the world and there are own versions of it.
The two other singers Gianna Nannini and Rea Garvey are well known in Germany, so this was a great selection of musicians.

I would be interested in the Japanese versions of these two songs. Can someone speak Japanese so well that he could post a link from Youtube here?

Marian Gold, the singer of Alphaville, is still active. He was part of a music show a few weeks ago that covers songs by other musicians. He has grown a bit thicker but still has a great voice.

I already have a guitar, but so far I have not had the peace to learn the instrument.

Hallo!! Welcome to SH!!

Some German songs are famous here in Philippines. I've known 99 Luftballons before without knowing it was a song by Nena. I was surprised when Scandal performed it and it was so cool.

I hope you have fun here .happy.

@wiesenau thank you for that little tidbit. ^_^ I can remember less familiar acquaintances from Germany greeting us Guten Tag while close ones used Hallo.

I don't think there's a Japanese version of the two with exception of SCANDAL's performances although I am not completely sure. Anyway, I'll check later those artists you've mentioned. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I hope you find the motivation to do so. Maybe, listening to SCANDAL more will trigger you. Haha

Hallo,
I ´m from Germany too.  First I found Band Maid on YouTube. Then I discovered more japanese all female bands and I found a lot of great musicians. Lovebites is my favorite Heavy Metal Band and Yuki of D-Drive is my favorite guitar player. But Scandal puts a spell on me. I never loved a band as much since the Beatles. By the way, I ´m 65 years old.

As I could read elsewhere in the forum, SCANDAL has translated the texts specially for the broadcast in Japanese.
I could have imagined that there could be at least one Japanese version of "99 Lutfballons", as Nena was very popular in Japan in the 80s.
